Live television is television broadcast in real time or on a short tape delay basis. Live television was very popular and used a lot in the early days of television except for filmed shows such as I Love Lucy. After videotaping technology was created, it became more popular and many entertainment programs were then recorded and edited before being broadcasted with the exclusion of professional sports games and awards programs and other entertainment events, which were still being broadcast live.

The most popular program for live television these days is the news which present recorded and edited new stories. Sometimes "breaking news" will occur and most television stations will interrupt what ever pre-programmed show is on to update their viewers on current news.

Now with all the modern society technology we have, there are other ways we can watch live television. Another option is free online channels which are websites that have online streaming but there are often limitations which can make your viewing experience less enjoyable such as your bandwidth getting used up.
